Glogster in the Classroom:  Sparking Subject Interest Without Sacrificing Standards

Provide training on ways to implement Glogster into the curriculum of middle school teachers grades 6 – 8 as a means of better equipping students with the knowledge they need to be competitive in the modern world. The training will allow teachers to see numerous possibilities for designing new curricula to meet educational objectives.  It will give diverse learners options for acquiring information and knowledge, offer appropriate challenges, and increase motivation.  It will differentiate learners of different comfort levels with technology.  It will also be modified so special education teachers will be able to use this in their classrooms and not have to be concerned with Common Core Standards.  Also, elimination of student grouping since some would rather work solo and not have to worry about another student slowing them down.

The Glogster-based teaching will help teachers encourage students to express independent and creative thought and be competent and confident problem solvers, while meeting the requirements of the Common Core State Standards.

EIDT 6120: Multimedia Design and Development (Learning Object)

The Learning Object

I did my course project on the Learning Object.  The course project, Learning Object, had me working with Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium software.  I used Photoshop, Adobe Audition, Flash Professional and Dreamweaver to create my Learning Object.  The Standard 2:  DEVELOPMENT states “Candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to develop instructional materials and experiences using (by applying principles, theories, and research related to) print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies.”  Multimedia can be used in many ways in the classroom.  This project is a means for showing that text can help make instructional materials more engaging, (elements that are very different from each other are eye-catching and draws the reader in.  It provides Repetition which shows cohesive unity and consistency within the document and promotes visual interest in reading the document.  Using the alignment tools offered in word processing or publishing software helps to strengthen the design of a document making it easier to read).

EDUC 6145: Project Management in Education and Training (Project Plan)

Instructional Design Project Plan

The course project assignments had me working solo on my project, Instructional Design Project Plan.  I had to select from one of the four case studies provided in week one, found in The ID Casebook: Case Studies in Instructional Design.  I chose Case Study 25, "Davey Jones: Designing an Electronic Performance Support System.”  Part of the project management process is planning, organizing and controlling.  In order for a project to be successful; outcome, schedule, and resources are essential.

In order for a project to be defined, project managers need to know the background, scope, and strategy of the project.  Project managers should have strategies and objectives laid out.  Project objectives include a statement, measures, and performance targets.  In addition to strategies and objectives, a project requires a Statement of Work (SOW).  All key elements need to be incorporated in a project in order for its success.  No one wants a project to fail.  There are a lot of people involved in a project and all must work together.  Keeping the lines of communication open are also key.

EDUC 6130: Program Evaluation (Program Evaluation Plan)

Program Evaluation Plan

For my Course Project Assignment, I identified the program for which I created a program evaluation plan.  My Course Project was on The Diocese of Scranton Parish Pastoral Council Guidelines and Resources.  The program, The Parish Pastoral Council, is pastoral planning - to structure ways that the parish can contribute to the mission, ministry, and the Church.  The course project assignments had me working solo on my project, The Parish Pastoral Council.

Program evaluation should be viewed within this organization if it is to be an effective tool by the evaluator discussing the program, examining the program, exploring evaluation approach, and agree on evaluation priorities with the stakeholders.  Stakeholders are competing with each other for resources, power, and leadership.  No matter what your title, job or field is, it is important to maintain good client and stakeholder relationships.
